Used as directed, Tecnu is very effective in removing the poisonous, oily irritant urushiol (oo-ruh-she-all), of poison oak, ivy and sumac before and after the red itchy rash has started. Poison oak, ivy and sumac emit the poisonous, oily irritant urushiol on the stem, roots, branches and leaves. The urushiol chemically locks on to skin proteins within 20 minutes after exposure to the plants (including dormant plants or long dead prunings), contaminated clothes or tools, or even contaminated pets. Tecnu is formulated to unlock the urushiol. No other product does that! Used as directed, Tecnu removes the oil before the rash starts. Once the rash has started Tecnu can stop the oil from spreading which allows the skin’s natural healing process to begin unimpeded. Removes poison oil that causes rash and itching. Stops oils from spreading once the rash has started. Allows a natural healing process to begin unimpeded. Decontaminates clothing, tools, and pets. Outdoor- industry proven since 1977. Easy to use in the field with or without water. No prescription required. DIRECTIONS FOR USE BEFORE RASH HAS STARTED: (1) Apply Tecnu to exposed, unwetted skin as soon as possible, up to 2 to 8 hours after exposure to the plant or oil from the plant. (2) Rub vigorously for 2 minutes to remove oil and other contaminants from skin. If hypersensitive to these plants, wash entire body with Tecnu. (3) Rinse skin clean with cool, running water or wipe with a cloth. Repeat. IF RASH HAS STARTED: (1) Apply Tecnu to affected skin and surrounding areas. For best results, apply to entire body. Rub in for 2 minutes but avoid breaking the skin. (2) Rinse with cool running water to remove Tecnu and poison oils. If itching persists, reapply Tecnu, then rinse in a very warm shower (not a bath). (3) Towel dry GENTLY. Repeat as needed and before retiring. TO CLEAN CLOTHING & EQUIPMENT: Saturate contaminated, unwetted clothing with Tecnu. (First check for color fastness by testing a concealed corner of the fabric.) Let soak for several minutes. Launder clothing by itself as usual with detergent and hot water. Equipment and tools should be wiped down with a clean cloth saturated with Tecnu. Wipe clean or rinse off with running water. Cleanse hands with Tecnu after handling contaminated items. FIRST AID/CAUTIONS KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. For external use only. Should not be applied to raw or oozing areas of skin. Do not use this product for at least 3 days after using hydrocortisone ointments on the affected area. May irritate sensitive skin. If redness, irritation or itching increases, or if infection occurs, discontinue use and consult a physician. Keep out of eyes.
